If you have lived long enough or are old enough, there is a good chance that you may have Arthritis. Osteoarthritis which is the most common form of Arthritis is inflammation in your joints that is caused by the wear and tear of life. In spite of the fact that arthritis is common, it doesn’t mean that there aren’t things we can do to lessen the effects. In this article, here are 3 arthritis solutions for seniors.
1. Diet- when it comes to arthritis solutions, you should look to foods that are anti-inflammatory. Good anti- inflammatory choices include nuts, veggies, and fruit, beans and foods that have a lot of fiber. On the contrary processed foods, alcohol, salt and dairy should all be significantly restricted or avoided to decrease inflammation.
2. Exercise- as a personal trainer for seniors, having to work with people that have pain from arthritis is widespread for me. The best advice in regards to exercising with arthritis would be to keep moving. Exercise is lubrication for your joints. Despite the fact that you may have slight discomfort when you start exercising, many people tell me how it makes them feel better after finishing. Doing aerobic exercise and strength training are both great choices for lubricating your joints.
3. Stretching- while exercising is perfect for lubricating your joints, stretching is also a great arthritis solution. Try doing a full body stretch but in particular focus on your quadriceps and hamstrings. From my experience, the most common areas where arthritis affects people are in their hip and knees. The more range of motion you have through stretching, it will more likely take some pressure off of your joints.
While getting older is normal, the pain that comes with it doesn’t have to be. While arthritis is common for seniors, with a few simple solutions, we don’t have to succumb to the pain.
